BASF partners with Grameen to fight malaria in Bangladesh

The newly inaugurated BASF Grameen Limited is a social business venture between the world’s leading chemical company BASF and Grameen Healthcare Trust of Bangladesh. The company produces mosquito nets that are coated with the insecticide Fendona. This treatment makes sure that the net remains effective against mosquitos for several years and can be washed up to 20 times depending on local conditions. Ultimate goal of this partnership is to improve healthcare for people in Bangladesh as health hazards from malaria remain a serious concern.

So far, half a million nets have been produced and Grameen BASF is already extending its product range with micronutrient sachets to sprinkle on food to provide essential nutrients that are still missing from the poor’s daily diets.
